In 2023, private equity firms bought up nearly half, 44% of all of the single family homes in America. The middle class American homeowner’s dream is now an American renter’s nightmare. The previous number they estimated had already been a painful lowball of only 18-23% of single family homes being purchased. And economists predicted that they would own a staggering 60% by 2030. I’ve been saying this for a while now “The American Dream is Dead!!!” But you can find the American dream in Central and South America.
As they say in Real-Estate Location, Location and Location. Well also timing. Medellin Colombia is a prime example of that. It’s one of the best places to live in Central and South America, but getting great deals, well let’s just say that ship has sailed. But it’s an incredible place to live and if you compare it to real-estate in the states there is not comparison.
El Salvador is has started to boom in the last 1-2 years, What Nayib Bukele has done in the short amount of time is incredible. That being said he has create the perfect recipe for other countries to follow and if they do expect to see properties in those country to start to go up. So when is a good time to buy? Right Now.
If you are looking at getting to and from all capitol cities are your best bets for finding something that isn’t going to be a giant culture shock. What I mean is if you have never lived in a foreign country, if you move there and immediately move out into the country well you are going to experience some big culture shock. If an expat can make it 3 years then they can survive outside their home country. If you start out somewhere out in the middle of no where, well chance are not good that you will make it past 1 year. So I recommend capitol cities, there you are going to have a much larger support group.
